SUGAR PRODUCTION: IVORY COAST AIMS FOR SELF-SUFFICIENCY IN 2023

Abidjan, April 30, 2019 – During his tour to Férkessédougou and Touba, on April 29, 2019, the Minister in charge of Industry, Souleymane Diarrassouba, invited the sugar production units Sucaf and Sucrivoire to reach the self-sufficiency in 2023, with a view to meeting national demand estimated at 240,000 tonnes.

<<Sucaf and Sucrivoire cover, to date, 83% of the national need which is 240,000 tonnes. The objective is to ensure that in 2023, these units allow the country to be self-sufficient in sugar,>> underlines an information note from the ministry.

These two production units have provided the assurance of meeting this challenge.

Minister Souleymane Diarrassouba said he was satisfied with his visit during which he ensured the availability of sugar for the coming Ramadan period. In fact, available stocks are 80,000 tonnes. Consumption was 45,000 tonnes the previous year.
