Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Energy

MISSIONS

The Ministry of Mines and Geology is responsible for implementing and monitoring the Government’s policy on mines and geology and, in conjunction with the various ministerial departments concerned, for initiating and taking responsibility for the following actions:

  • Security of Côte d’Ivoire’s supplies of hydrocarbons, minerals and energy.
  • Rational and sustainable use of energy and mineral resources.
  • Promoting, guiding, regulating, coordinating and controlling the exploration, extraction and production of mineral substances, crude oil, natural gas and other hydrocarbons.
  • Development of the transformation of mineral substances and hydrocarbons into semi-finished products.
  • Management of petroleum product standards and specifications, quality control and fraud prevention.
  • Setting up an institutional and legal framework to strengthen competitiveness and competition with a view to developing the mining, oil and energy sectors.
  • Regulation and control of the constitution and management of security stocks of petroleum products.
  • Collection and dissemination of scientific and technical documentation relating to the mining, oil and energy sectors in Côte d’Ivoire and worldwide.
  • Implementation and monitoring of a programme to provide electricity coverage throughout the country.
  • Intensification of actions to implement and monitor conventional and non-conventional energy programmes for rural areas, in liaison with the Ministry of Agriculture.
  • Regulation, control and guidance of the production, transmission and distribution of conventional and new and renewable energies.
  • Developing human resources in the mining, oil and energy sectors.
  • Implementing and monitoring the Government’s policy on energy saving and the promotion of renewable energy in conjunction with the Minister for the Environment and the Minister for Water and Forests;
  • Stepping up efforts to raise awareness of the use of gas as a domestic energy source.
  • Promoting an energy-saving policy at national level, particularly in public services.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of agreements in the mining, oil and energy sector.
